Hi all

I've just been taking advantage of last weekends good weather but have come to the conclusion that i need new dampers, as the springs are as old as the dampers then i might change those as well, can i ask what spring rate any members have ? this will apply mainly to Haldane/3000 owners

Thanks
Roy

I have put new springs on the rear of mine and i cant remembe what rate they were, i think they were 300lb and 8'' but i will see if i still have the details they did make the car a lot better no more hitting the bumpstops. will have a look in a bit.

Hi
According to Pro-formance shocks, the springs i have are 300lbs or as near as makes no difference, i doubled up the 'clicks ' on the shocks and it didn't seem to make much difference, so it looks like I'll just get some new dampers and take it from there.

Thanks

Hi Roy,
Sorry not responded before but I thought I didn't have any information but I've just seen that the 3000 "manual" says the "springs are rated at 160lb/inch".  HTH

I don't think I have got any clicks on mine at all, is it worth trying some 320lb ones to see if that helps, I don't think they were that expensive, I think I have read that they should be 160lb but that's not correct

I'm not too sure about raising the poundage, at my age i want all the comfort i can get  Smiley and given that it's a kit car it's all a bit hit and miss.

The latest spax dampers seem to have 2 adjustments, bounce and rebound so I'm thinking that as it's the rebound i seem to be suffering from then they might be the way to go.

I think I'm trying to go the way of Colin Chapman with his practice of ' soft springs, firm damping ' it works alright for lotus so I'm hoping i can use that theory on my car.

I've been out for trips in both a caterham and a westfield and noticed that on both cars the front suspension lifted only the wheels up over bumps etc rather than the all the front of the car, which resulted in quite a smooth ride considering what the cars are, by that i mean they're not saloon cars with expensively developed suspension.
I hope that makes sense !

I think I'll contact spax and send them the weights of my car and see if they can offer any solutions

I'll let you know how i get on
