Hi guys
I am with Dennis Sadler at the moment and he has a problem.
He wants to set the ignition timing on his 2.0Ltr SOHC (Pinto). The haynes manuals only seem to give a static timing angle and dennis wants to set it up using a strobe light and so will need an Angle and a rev counter setting.
His Haynes Manual is for a Mk 3 cortina  and I recon that the strobe light and possibly pneumatic tyres were invented after it went into print
Has anyone got the correct settings for him

Many thanks John

I thought Dennis could do it by ear, I think it was about 8 to 10 deg before TDC at about 1500 rpm the only reason to put the revs on is to wind the centrifugal weights up in the distributer. I have seen one of those strobes on that antique road show or in the black country museum.

I usually connect my strobe up tape up the on switch keep it pointing inside put on some serious garage music and give it some head banging until the answer comes. I must stop sniffing GUNK.

I just used to advance the ignition so that it 'pinked' under acceleration, and then backed it off a tad until the racket stopped......

Hiya John!

Yes, I'm doing just fine, although I sold my lovely old 'dog some three years ago - she's now residing in France.....

Hi John

The settings in my Haynes manual for the Sierra are with the engine running vacuum pipe disconnected, or at least that's what they say.

engine 2.0 ohc carb

 up to 85             leaded      unleaded
                          8 BTDC       4 BTDC

After 85             10 BTDC     6 BTDC
